Gov't Launches Task Force to Regulate Virtual Currency Transactions

The government has formed a task force to seek ways to regulate bitcoin-related speculative activities and virtual currency transactions.

The task force held its first meeting Monday morning and agreed to jointly respond to virtual currency-related concerns.

The Justice Ministry says it will take the lead in drafting and implementing regulations through ministerial consultations.

The government-wide task force includes the Finance Ministry, the Financial Services Commission, the Fair Trade Commission, the National Tax Service, the National Police Agency and the Bank of Korea.
