The South Korean military has launched a special task force responsible for eliminating the North Korean leadership in the event of a contingency on the Korean Peninsula.
A South Korean Army official told reporters that a launch ceremony for the special mission brigade was conducted Friday afternoon, but declined to provide more details citing security reasons.
It's known that Nam Young-shin, top commander of the Army Special Warfare Command, oversaw the launch of the brigade which is comprised of around one-thousand soldiers.
The creation of this special unit has been pursued as part of the South Korean Army’s plan to foster five “game changer” combat assets to assist the country’s main defense system.
If a war breaks out, the brigade will be airlifted to Pyongyang to remove the North Korean leadership, which has the authority to order a nuclear attack, and paralyze its commanding facilities.
