New data finds that “Come See Me” sung by BangMi was the most played South Korean song transmitted to North Korea this year via loudspeakers installed on the inter-Korean border.
Main opposition Liberty Korea Party lawmaker Kim Hack-yong Friday quoted data from the psychological warfare unit under the Defense Ministry as saying that “Come See Me” was transmitted a total of 14 times.
The data found that roughly 100 South Korean songs were transmitted to the North between January and October this year.
“Come See Me” includes lines such as “come and see me when you are lonely and sad, and call me if you can’t sleep late at night.”
Kim noted that the North Korean soldier who defected to South Korea via the Joint Security Area last month and another soldier who crossed the military demarcation in June had both decided to defect after hearing the loudspeaker broadcasts.
Kim stressed the need to further diversify psychological warfare operations against the North.
