South Korea and the U.S. will conduct joint air force exercises next month, involving around 230 fighter jets from the two countries.
The U.S. Seventh Air Force said Friday it will conduct the five-day “Vigilant ACE” exercise beginning December fourth, adding it's aimed at enhancing the allies' interoperability and battle efficiency.
The U.S. plans to deploy around 12-thousand military personnel into the drill, including those from the Navy and Marine Corps.
The exercises will also feature six F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets and three or four F-35A Lightning stealth fighters from the U.S. It marks the first time for the U.S. to deploy as many as six F-22s to the Korean Peninsula at the same time.
Many of the U.S. fighter jets will fly to the Korean Peninsula from a U.S. air base in Okinawa, Japan.
The planned deployment comes around three weeks after the U.S. sent three aircraft carriers to the East Sea.
