October Exports Fall but Chips Still Going Strong

Latest figures show that South Korea's exports in October fell for the first time in a year.

The export volume index was 133-point-60, down one-point-nine percent from the same period last year with the base 100 being the figure estimated in the year 2010.

This is largely attributed to the reduced number of work days from the record-long Chuseok holidays.

Compared to last year, production was reduced by four and a half days.

On the other hand, semiconductor exports continued their sharp upswing as the production lines kept running.

The Bank of Korea said when looking at the two months of September and October, the export volume index is actually up by as much as nine percent from the same period last year.
