South Korea's Unification Minister has held talks with the visiting head of the World Food Program(WFP) on humanitarian aid for North Korea.
The Unification Ministry said Wednesday that Cho Myoung-gyon and WFP Executive-Director David Beasley discussed the conditions facing the most vulnerable people in North Korea such as children and pregnant women and the food assistance programs that could be provided to them.
Beasley asked South Korea to swiftly follow up on its promise to provide millions of dollars worth of aid for the North through the UN agency. In response, Cho reiterated Seoul’s stance that it will do so while considering the overall circumstances.
On September 21st, the government approved the provision of eight million dollars to projects supporting North Korean infants and expectant mothers through UN organizations, including four-point-five million dollars via the WFP and three-point-five million dollars via UNICEF.
