Salaries at Small Firms Less than Half Those Paid at Large Companies

The pay gap between big companies and smaller ones in South Korea is widening, with workers at large firms earning more than twice as much as those working at small companies.    

According to Statistics Korea on Tuesday, South Korean workers earned a monthly average salary of two-point-81 million won last year, with its median level measured at two-point-09 million won.

The average salary at small and mid-sized enterprises was two-point-24 million won, while the average pay for large companies was four-point-74 million won.

Male workers received an average monthly salary of three-point-27 million won, one-point-six times higher than women's.
