Attention is being drawn on whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy on Sunday.
The North's state-run daily Rodong Sinmun on Sunday reported on Chinese special envoy Song Tao's visit to the regime, including a banquet held for the envoy on Saturday.
The Central Committee of the North's ruling Workers' Party reportedly held the banquet for Song, which was attended by senior party leader Ri Su-yong and Chinese Ambassador to the North Li Jinjun.
The paper reported that speeches were delivered at the banquet, but did not elaborate further.
The Chinese envoy is widely expected to meet with the North Korean leader on Sunday as he is scheduled to return home Monday.
If the meeting takes place, Song will likely deliver a letter from Xi and discuss the North's nuclear and missile tests.
Song, who arrived in Pyongyang on Friday, met with North Korean official Choe Ryong-hae on the same day and senior party leader Ri Su-yong the following day.
