S. Korea's Job Growth Falls Below 300,000 in October

South Korea's monthly job growth slowed and youth unemployment worsened last month.

According to data by Statistics Korea on Wednesday, the number of people with jobs stood at 26-point-nine million last month, up 279-thousand or one percent from a year earlier.

The number of employed people increased by more than 300-thousand for six straight months before falling below that mark in August. The figure recovered to the mark in September but slipped again in October.

The country's overall jobless rate stood at three-point-two percent last month, down point-two percentage point year-on-year.

The unemployment rate for young people, aged between 15 and 29, came to eight-point-six percent, up one tenth of a percentage point from a year earlier.

But the real jobless rate for young people, which includes discouraged workers, increased zero-point-six percentage point on-year to 21-point-seven percent.
