The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) on Monday fell 12-point-60 points, or point-50 percent, to close the day at two-thousand-530-point-35.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ surged, gaining 20-point-59 points, or two-point-86 percent. It closed the day at 741-point-38, its highest in 27 months.

The gain followed news that the government will give tax breaks to those who invest in KOSDAQ stocks.

Details of the tax incentive, including the amount that will be deducted, will be decided by the end of the year.

On the foreign exchange market, the value of the local currency weakened three-point-five won against the U.S. dollar, closing at one-thousand-120-point-six won.
