South Korea plans to impose a combined fine of 70-point-three billion won on the Korean subsidiaries of automakers BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche for falsifying documents required for state certification on emission standards.
The Environment Ministry said on Thursday that it sent to the three firms a prior notice of administrative measures for fines, a sales ban on the relevant models and cancellation of their certifications.
The ministry said that certificates of fuel efficiency will be canceled by mid-November and sales will be stopped for 28 BMW models.
The BMW firm will also be fined 60-point-eight billion won for "falsifying" documents on emission test results and not obtaining approval for changes in emission-control components before their cars were sold.
The Mercedes-Benz and Porsche firms will be fined about seven-point-eight billion won and one-point-seven billion won respectively for not obtaining approval for changes in emission-control components before cars were sold.
