Gov't Promises to Reflect Public Opinion in KORUS FTA Renegotiation

Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon is promising that the government will try to set goals on renegotiating a possible amendment to its free trade agreement with the United States based on public opinion.

Kim made the remark on Friday while presiding over an external economy-related ministerial meeting at the Government Complex in Seoul. He explained that both countries share the perception that bilateral FTA should be more reciprocal.

He said the government knows the Korean public is interested in issues regarding the Korea-U.S. FTA and will try to actively reflect their voices in the renegotiating process, including through consultations with the National Assembly.

The government also plans to hold a public hearing on the issue at the COEX in Seoul on Friday of next week.
