U.S. Senate Expected to Take Up 'Otto Warmbier Sanctions' Next Week

The U.S. Senate is expected to take up the 'Otto Warmbier North Korea Nuclear Sanctions Act' next week, according to a Reuters report published Wednesday.

The act was passed by the House last week by a vote of 415 to two, proposing the U.S. Treasury Department ban financial institutions in the country from engaging in transactions that benefit people or entities associated with the Pyongyang regime.

It is effectively a secondary boycott as it targets Chinese banks and companies.

Members of the U.S. Congress have called for China to do more to pressure Pyongyang.
