A new survey finds that one out of two foreign tourists to South Korea made the trip after watching a Korean TV drama or movie.
According to the survey, released Thursday and carried out by the Korea Tourism Organization on three-thousand-199 tourists, 55-point-six percent of respondents said they picked South Korea as their travel destination due to Korean TV dramas or movies.
The tourists surveyed didn't travel in a package tour, but came individually after reserving their own airline tickets. The respondents were from eight countries, including China, Japan, America, Taiwan and Malaysia. The tourism agency conducted the survey from the end of last year to early this year.
The survey found that nearly 37 percent of respondents decided to visit South Korea after watching TV programs introducing major attractions while some 28 percent made the trip after checking out posts on social media and blogs. About 27 percent of the surveyed visited South Korea on recommendations from their friends and relatives.
The survey also found that 65 percent of respondents compared South Korea with Japan while traveling in South Korea.
