Korea Fair Trade Commission Chairman Kim Sang-jo has called on conglomerates to further step up efforts to carry out reform.
Kim made the call at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday when he held policy discussions with top officials of five leading business groups, including Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, SK, LG and Lotte.
Kim said he can’t help but question the top business groups' will to voluntarily pursue reform.
He said the gap between conglomerates’ business strategies and society’s response must not become too wide. He urged the companies to thoroughly and speedily carry out reforms so that the people will be able to actually feel changes coming from the conglomerates.
Kim also revealed intentions to inspect conglomerates' public foundations and go over the profit structure of holding companies.
Earlier in June, Kim had urged conglomerates to show exemplary cases for voluntary reform when he met with top officials of Samsung, Hyundai Motor, SK and LG.
