'Trump Likely to Mention Need to Cut US Trade Deficit During Korea Trip'

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to reiterate the need to reduce the U.S. trade deficit during his South Korea trip next week.

South Korea's Trade Minister Kim Hyun-chong presented the projection on Tuesday during a parliamentary audit.

When asked about Trump's possible comments on the bilateral free trade agreement(FTA) during his upcoming Seoul visit, Kim said that there's a possibility that Trump will mention the need to cut the U.S. trade deficit with South Korea.

However, Kim said that it's unlikely for Trump to mention specific sectors, such as auto and steel.

The trade minister also stressed that rice and agricultural products will be excluded in the renegotiation of the FTA, dismissing speculations that Trump will demand South Korea expand its quota for American rice during his trip.
