Biz Sentiment Down in October, but Outlook Brighter for November

A survey shows that South Korea's business sentiment worsened in October due to the long Chuseok holiday.

According to the Bank of Korea on Tuesday, the overall business survey index(BSI) for this month came to 78, down three points from September.

The fall is attributed to a fall in the operation rate due to the ten-day Chuseok holiday in early October.

The BSI for next month, however, came to 84, showing that more South Korean firms are expecting business to improve as working days will recover to the normal level in November.

A reading below 100 means pessimists outnumber optimists, while a reading above 100 means the opposite.

The manufacturing BSI for this month fell to 81, down two points from a month earlier. The index stood at 78 for three straight months from June and jumped to 83 in September before slipping this month.
