Foreign Minister: Nothing to Apologize over THAAD Row with China

The South Korean top diplomat says Seoul has no reason to apologize to Beijing over the deployment of the U.S. THAAD missile battery.

Foreign minister Kang Kyung-hwa on Monday took part in the parliamentary audit of her ministry and clarified the government's position on the THAAD row.

Asked by main opposition Liberty Korea Party Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun if the government would express regret over the deployment, Kang said there is nothing to apologize for.

While emphasizing the installation is intended for self-defense, Kang also made it clear that Seoul is neither considering additional deployment of the THAAD system nor its participation in the wider U.S.-led missile defense(MD) networks.

She added that the two sides are discussing the timing of President Moon’s visit to Beijing, which will be held at a mutually convenient time.
