Moody's Forecasts 3% Growth Rate for S. Korea This Year

Moody's Investors Service has forecast that the South Korean economy will grow three percent this year, matching the government's target. The global ratings agency projected growth of two-point-eight percent for 2018.

In a report Friday, Moody's said South Korea's fundamentals support the current credit rating of Aa2 with a stable outlook. It cited the potential to grow around three percent over the next five years as well as the nation's diversified and competitive economy and high income level.

However, it pointed out various risk factors such as tensions with North Korea as well as structural problems in the Korean economy, such as the high level of household debt.
