S. Korea's Car Exports Jump 30% in 3Q

South Korea’s auto exports jumped sharply in the third quarter thanks in part to the rising popularity of minicar models in Europe.

The Korea Customs Service said on Thursday that the nation exported cars worth nine-point-four billion U.S. dollars in the June-to-September period, a 30-point-one percent increase from a year earlier.

The number of cars shipped in the third quarter also rose almost 21 percent on-year to 620-thousand.

Exports of minicars to Europe, in particular, soared by more than 240 percent due to growing demand for new small-sized South Korean sports-utility vehicles.
