Construction of Shin Kori Nuke Reactors to Resume on Nov. 8

The construction of the Shin Kori 5 and 6 nuclear reactors is expected to resume early next month.

Representative Kim Jung-hoon of the largest opposition Liberty Korea Party said on Thursday that Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power reported the plan to its board members.

According to the lawmaker, the state-funded nuclear operator told a board meeting that November eighth will see the resumption of the construction of key facilities of the two nuclear reactors that are subject to a safety check by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.

The government decided to resume the stalled construction of the two reactors on the southeast coast at the recommendation of a state committee last week following its three-month-long activity to measure public opinion on the issue.

The reactors were about 30 percent complete before their construction was suspended in July.
