S. Korea to Hold Public Hearing on KORUS FTA

South Korea will hold a public hearing next month on a possible amendment to its free trade agreement with the U.S.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on Wednesday that it will hold the public hearing on November tenth in Seoul to collect public opinions and listen to views from experts in related fields on the revision of the trade deal.

The public hearing is part of legal procedures the government must follow before it starts talks with Washington.

The ministry said that opinions gathered from the hearing will be reflected in the government's plan for the renegotiation.

As it’s scheduled for shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to Seoul, the hearing is expected to address the FTA and other trade issues that are likely to be discussed in Trump's summit talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
