Gov't to Extend Deadline for Paris Baguette to Directly Hire Bakers

The Labor Ministry is likely to give 25 more days for bakery chain Paris Baguette to directly hire all of its outsourced bakers working at the brand's franchise outlets across the country.

Late last month, the ministry ordered the bakery chain to directly hire all of its five-thousand-309 bakers and baristas by November ninth, saying that the chain was found to be cutting corners on labor costs by illegally using bakers hired through subcontractors.

According to an official at the ministry' Seoul office on Wednesday, the deadline will be extended to December 14th if the headquarters of the bakery chain makes the request and presents reasonable reform proposals.

The official said that the ministry decided to extend the deadline in light of substantial difficulties for the bakery chain to hire over five thousand bakers through massive restructuring.
