No. of Listed Firms with More than 10 Tln won in Market Cap Sees New High

The number of listed companies whose market capitalization exceeds ten trillion won has risen to a new record.

The Korea Exchange announced on Tuesday that the total number of listed firms with a market cap of more than ten trillion won stood at a new high of 35 as of Monday.

Out of those firms, 24 newly advanced into the ranks of the so-called “ten trillion won club.” Thirty-four were on the main bourse, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Kakao. The only firm listed on the tech-heavy KOSDAQ was Celltrion.

Back in 2007, only 24 listed firms had a market cap of more than ten trillion won. Following the global financial crisis, that figure plunged to ten at the end of 2008 before picking up to 20 at the end of 2009. By the end of 2010, the figure had risen to 28.

However, between 2012 and 2015, such firms had remained between 23 and 24. Last year the figure grew to 28.
