BOK Chief Hints at Possible Rate Hike Again

Bank of Korea(BOK) Governor Lee Ju-yeol has again hinted at a possible rate hike in the near future.

The BOK chief said during a parliamentary audit of the central bank on Monday that a rate hike could be considered if the economy shows signs of steady recovery and consumer prices reach the target range.

Specifically, Lee suggested a mid-term inflation rate of two percent and a recovery in the growth rate to the potential growth level of two-point-eight to two-point-nine percent.

The BOK chief also said that South Korea is unlikely to witness any drastic capital outflow, even if the interest rate gap between South Korea and the U.S. is reversed. He said that isn't the only determinant of capital flows.
