FTC: S. Korea Keeping Eye on German Auto Cartel Scandal

The chairman of South Korea's Fair Trade Commission(FTC) says that his organization is keeping a close eye on the German auto cartel issue in Europe, and will soon conclude whether German automakers have also violated antitrust laws in Korea.

Kim Sang-jo said during a parliamentary audit on Thursday that the FTC has yet to contact suspected automakers, but it is sharing information with foreign regulators and will soon make a decision.

Following German news magazine Der Spiegel's report in July, European antitrust authorities recently said they're investigating claims that major German automakers including Volkswagen, Audi and BMW have been operating a secret cartel since the 1990s.
