Gov't Begins Drafting Measures for Conglomerate Reform

The government is working on measures to help actualize President Moon Jae-in’s election pledge to reform the nation’s conglomerates along with the laws and institutions favoring them.

The Ministry of Justice said its policy committee, including 14 experts in the private sector, held its first meeting on Thursday. They finalized a set of major policy goals such as reforms for large-sized business groups.

They also include revising the so-called economic democratization law that will entail improving corporate governance structure and enhancing transparency of corporate management.

The government also seeks to improve the laws and institutions to strengthen protection for economic minorities.

Meanwhile, the ministry said it will soon establish a legal foundation for virtual currencies, including Bitcoin.
