OECD Chief: FTA Renegotiation Unlikely to Greatly Impact S. Korean Economy

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria said Wednesday the negotiation to amend the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement(FTA) is not likely to have a huge impact on the Korean economy.

The head of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD) who is visiting Seoul made the comment during a joint news conference with Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon on Wednesday.

He said that as in the case with all FTAs of the United States, the deal with South Korea is also put to a test but he does not predict any extreme changes to occur.

In its global economic outlook report in June, the OECD forecast two-point-six percent growth for the South Korean economy this year. The OECD cited geopolitical tensions related to North Korea and the revision of the Korea-U.S. FTA as factors that could lower South Korea's growth.
