N. Korea Operating Small Hydroelectric Generator Near Gaeseong: Unification Minister

North Korea is believed to be operating a small hydroelectric power generator near the Kaeseong Industrial Complex.

This was revealed Friday by South Korean Unification Minister Cho Myung-kyun during the National Assembly's inspection of government affairs.

Citing media reports that North Korea has been operating factories and equipment belonging to South Korean companies at the inter-Korean factory zone, Liberty Korea Party Rep. Lee Ju-young asked Cho where the electricity was coming from.

The minister said Seoul had been noticing signs of activity since March, including lit street lamps and vehicles passing through the area. But at the time, they did not lead to direct proof that the power generation facility was running.
