South Korea and the U.S. will hold a combined multinational mine warfare exercise next week in waters southeast of the Korean Peninsula.
 
The South Korean Navy said on Wednesday that the naval forces of the two nations will hold the exercise in waters off Jinhae Bay for a week from Saturday to reinforce their anti-mine warfare capabilities.
 
The naval drill will involve about ten South Korean vessels, including a three-thousand ton minelayer and P-3 maritime patrol aircraft. The U.S. Navy will send its coastal minesweeper USS Chief and an MH-53E, an aerial mine countermeasure aircraft.
 
Explosive Ordnance Disposal(EOD) Teams from South Korea, the U.S., Canada and the Philippines will also join the drill. 
 
For the exercise, the minelayer will place mines and the minesweeper and EOD teams will detect and remove them.
