The Seoul government and tech giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics say they'll exert their best efforts to counter a possible safeguard action by the U.S. government against South Korean washing machines.
Foreign and trade ministries and Samsung and LG officials are known to be meeting this coming Wednesday to discuss measures to block the potential U.S. restriction.
This comes as the U.S. International Trade Commission(ITC) ruled Thursday that imports of Samsung and LG washing machines were harming the U.S. industry. The ruling came after U.S. company Whirlpool filed a safeguard petition.
Officials meeting Wednesday will assess the ITC's decision and coordinate documents to be submitted to the ITC by Samsung and LG ahead of a U.S. public hearing on October 19th to address possible remedies.
Following the hearing, the ITC will vote on October 21st on the type and scope of remedies. The commission then has until December fourth to submit a report on recommended remedies to President Donald Trump.
