Hyundai Motor's Sales in China Top 85,000 in Sept.

Hyundai Motor Company saw its auto sales in China top 85-thousand units last month, the largest to be posted this year.

Chinese media reports Beijing Hyundai, a joint-venture between BAIC Motor and Hyundai Motor, sold 85-thousand-40 units in September.

That's up 60 percent from the previous month.

The September figure is larger than the roughly 80-thousand units sold in January, or before China began to actively take retaliatory steps against South Korea in protest of the deployment of the THAAD antimissile system on the Korean Peninsula.

It's more than double the roughly 35-thousand units sold on average between April and June when sales plunged due to that retaliation.

Market observers warn it's still too early to conclude the South Korean automaker has overcome the ramifications of China's THAAD protest.

Although sales have surged 60 percent from August, Hyundai's sales are still down a little more than 18 percent compared to the same time last year.
