US Aircraft Carrier to be Deployed to Korean Peninsula for Joint Drill

The United States will reportedly send its aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) to the waters near the Korean Peninsula in mid-October for a joint exercise with South Korea's Navy.

A military official in Seoul said Sunday that the two sides are discussing a plan for the aircraft strike group, led by the nuclear-powered USS Ronald Reagan, to operate in the East Sea around October 15th.

The aircraft strike group will reportedly include the nuclear-powered Reagan and several other warships, such as an Aegis destroyer, a guided-missile cruiser and a nuclear-powered Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine.

The official said that the two sides plan to conduct intensive joint drills to detect, track and intercept the North's ballistic missiles, as well as anti-submarine warfare training.
