S. Korea’s Exports Soar 35% in September

South Korea's exports soared 35 percent to hit an all-time high in September on strong demand for semiconductors and displays.

According to tentative data compiled by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Sunday, the country's outbound shipments came to 55-point-one billion U.S. dollars last month, up 35 percent year-on-year.

The September figure marks the largest monthly total in South Korean history since the country started compiling related data in 1956. The daily average also hit an all-time high of two-point-35 billion dollars last month.

The country's exports have been on a steady rise since November and the 35 percent growth is the largest monthly gain since January 2011.

Imports also increased 21-point-seven percent on-year to 41-point-four billion dollars last month.

The country's trade surplus came to 13-point-eight billion dollars, marking 68 straight months that the country's exports have exceeded imports.
