Paris Baguette Ordered to Directly Hire Bakers, Baristas

The Labor Ministry said on Thursday that it has ordered Paris Baguette to directly hire thousands of bakers and baristas the company was accused of using without formal employment.
 
On Thursday of last week, the ministry said South Korea's largest bakery chain was found cutting corners on labor costs by illegally using five-thousand-378 bakers and baristas hired by its subcontractors.
 
The ministry said the company will have until November ninth to follow its order or face judicial action or heavy penalties.
 
The ministry also ordered the company to pay eleven billion won of overdue salaries, including overtime pay, which it was supposed to pay bakers hired through eleven subcontractors.
