Consumer Sentiment Falls for Second Month on Geopolitical Risks

South Korea’s consumer sentiment worsened for the second straight month in September due to geopolitical risks from North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats and the U.S. THAAD antimissile system.

According to the Bank of Korea(BOK) on Tuesday, the composite consumer sentiment index for September came to 107-point-seven, down two-point-two points from a month earlier.

The index, which dropped one-point-three points in August, slipped for the second consecutive month.

The index had fallen for the first time in seven months in August after surging 17-point-nine points from February to July.

A reading above 100 means optimists outnumber pessimists.

The central bank conducted a survey of 22-hundred households around the country between September 12th and 19th for the index. Two-thousand-13 households responded.
