Seoul Suggests Follow Up Talks on KORUS FTA

Minister for Trade Kim Hyun-chong has proposed a second round of talks over Washington's request to amend the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement(KORUS FTA).

South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said that Kim made the suggestion during his one-on-one meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer in Washington on Wednesday.

Lighthizer is said to have agreed to hold a follow-up session between members of the two countries' joint FTA committee. Kim said that the meeting should be held in the U.S. capital.

The first special session was held in Seoul last month. The Korean trade minister said then that no agreement had been made on amending or revising the FTA and that the two parties should conduct an objective review of the treaty's impact on both sides before any changes are considered.
