The Finance Ministry has finalized a tally of government debt of both central and provincial governments at 626-point-nine trillion won.
 
The amount is over 38 percent of the gross domestic product(GDP).
 
The final figure is about 200 billion won less than an estimate announced in April.
 
This is because provincial governments reduced their balance on bond issuance aimed at boosting fiscal soundness.
 
A ministry official said the estimate in April was before accounts were settled at local governments and the latest tally reflecting the final figures is down by 200 billion won.
 
The near 627 trillion won national debt breaks down into some 12 million won per South Korean based on last year's population.
