Trump: Options on N. Korea 'Effective, Overwhelming'

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that U.S. options to address the North Korean threat are both "effective and overwhelming."

The U.S. leader addressed military personnel at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Friday, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Air Force.

During his speech, Trump condemned North Korea's latest destabilizing action and indicated that the U.S. is prepared to respond militarily.

He said that after seeing the airmen's capabilities, he is more confident than ever that U.S. options in addressing the North Korean threat are both effective and overwhelming.

Trump said the North had "once again shown its utter contempt for its neighbors and for the entire world community."

Earlier, National Security Adviser Herbert McMaster also told a White House news briefing that there is a military option to deal with the regime but it's not what the U.S. would prefer to do.

He called on all nations to do everything to address "this global problem short of war."

His remark implies the U.S. will inevitably need to review a military option if necessary alongside economic and diplomatic pressure on Pyongyang.
