Peru Also Expels North Korean Ambassador

The Peruvian government has declared the North Korean ambassador to Peru a persona non grata in response to the North’s sixth nuclear test and series of ballistic missile launches.

Reuters said the Peruvian government on Monday gave Ambassador Kim Hak-chol five days to leave Peru.

The move comes shortly after the Mexican government last Thursday ordered the North’s ambassador to Mexico to leave within 72 hours as a way to protest the North’s nuclear and missile provocations.

Peru and Mexico apparently took the diplomatic step to keep up with the international community’s response to the North’s nuclear test.

When U.S. Vice President Mike Pence visited Chile last month, he urged Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Peru to cut diplomatic and trade ties with the North.
