Haley: New Sanctions on N. Korea are Strongest Ever

U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told the UN Security Council(UNSC) on Monday that newly approved sanctions against North Korea are "by far the strongest measures ever imposed on North Korea."

"Today the Security Council has acted in a different way. Today we are attempting to take the future of the North Korean nuclear program out of the hands of its outlaw regime. We are done trying to prod the regime to do the right thing. We are now acting to stop it from having the ability to continue doing the wrong thing."

She stressed that the steps will only work “if all nations implement them completely and aggressively.”

Haley also noted that the UNSC is not looking for war and that North Korea has not passed the point of no return. She said if the North agrees to stop its nuclear program, “it can reclaim its future.”

Her comments follow the UNSC’s unanimous approval of new sanctions on North Korea which ban it from importing all natural gas liquids and condensates, exporting textiles and prohibits the employment of North Korean workers overseas.
