McDonald's Korea Chief Apologizes Over Food Contamination Case

The chief executive of McDonald's Korea gave her first official apology on Thursday for the fast food chain's recent outbreaks of food contamination.

Through the company’s Korean website, Joh Joo-yun expressed her regret over the food-poisoning cases, saying that her company will cooperate with the government's ongoing probe.

She also offered her sympathies and support for customers who developed the kidney-threatening hemolytic-uremic syndrome(HUS) disease after allegedly consuming burgers from the American fast food restaurants in the country.

The country's prosecution received complaints of five affected children by HUS after eating McDonalds' food items so far this year.

Last month, seven children and their teacher reportedly suffered from enteritis after consuming the company's bulgogi burgers, a South Korean menu option consisting of marinated beef.

McDonald has since halted sales of the burger.
