The White House has reportedly suspended consideration of terminating the U.S. free trade agreement with South Korea.
Quoting a senior administration official on Wednesday, Reuters reported that the White House set aside for now consideration of ending the KORUS FTA.
U.S. trade magazine "Inside U.S. Trade" also said on Wednesday that the White House has assured key lawmakers that its threat to begin withdrawing from the trade deal has been taken off the table for now.
U.S. President Donald Trump said last Saturday that he would meet with his advisers this week to discuss a possible withdrawal from the free trade agreement with South Korea.
But many U.S. congressmen voiced opposition to the withdrawal, saying that a strong alliance between Seoul and Washington has become much more important in the wake of North Korea's sixth nuclear test.
On Tuesday, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer reportedly expressed hopes to negotiate amendments to the trade deal.
