Samsung Heir’s Sentence to be Used as Evidence in Ex-Pres. Park’s Trial

A Seoul court’s decision to sentence Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong to five years in prison for providing nearly nine billion won in bribes to former President Park Geun-hye and her longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil will be used as evidence in both Park and Choi’s trials.

The Seoul Central District Court said Tuesday that the prosecution had requested the ruling on Lee’s case to be used as additional evidence in both Park and Choi’s trials.

Last Friday, the court found Lee guilty of providing eight-point-nine billion won in bribes for Choi’s projects in a bid to receive the government's blessing for a merger between two Samsung subsidiaries designed to cement management succession from his ailing father Lee Kun-hee.
