Samsung Heir's Lawyers Appeal Court Ruling

A team of lawyers representing Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong has appealed his prison sentencing on corruption charges.

Kim Jong-hoon, one of Lee’s lawyers, submitted a petition for appeal before the Seoul Central District Court on Monday.

Last Friday, the court sentenced Lee to five years in prison for all five counts charged against him: bribery, embezzlement, illegal transfer of assets overseas, concealment of criminal proceeds and perjury.

One of Lee's lawyers had told reporters shortly after the court decision that the sentence is unacceptable, and that he is certain an appellate court will overturn it and find his client innocent.

Special prosecutor Park Young-soo and his team are also set to present a petition for appeal on Monday.
