The chief of Samsung Electronics' mobile business unit on Thursday expressed confidence over the future success of the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone, claiming that the device will help the company regain consumer trust. 

Koh Dong-jin made the remark on Thursday during an "Unpack" event in New York. 

During his meeting with journalists, Koh said he wanted to prove through the new smartphone model that last year's Galaxy Note 7 explosion fiasco was due to fire-prone batteries and not the phone itself. 

Koh expressed hope that the Galaxy Note 8 will become a turning point for regaining trust from consumers.
