WSJ: China's Retaliation over THAAD Harms Chinese Workers

The Wall Street Journal(WSJ) has reported that China’s retaliation against South Korea over the U.S. THAAD antimissile system is tormenting not only South Korean companies in China but also their Chinese employees.

The article published Wednesday took three Kia Motors’ factories in Yancheng in northeastern Jiangsu Province as examples, saying Chinese workers there have suffered cuts in working hours and salary following the rapid decline of sales of South Korean cars in China.

The paper quoted a Communist Party official as saying around 30-thousand Chinese are employed at the three Kia factories in Yancheng which are currently operating at only 30 percent capacity.

According to industry data, Kia and its parent company, Hyundai Motor, sold about 431-thousand cars in China in the first half of this year, a whopping 52-point-three percent decrease from the same period last year.

The report said Hyundai Motor alone had its sales in China decline by 61 percent from March to June.
