Despite having the highest number of industrial robots for every ten-thousand employees, South Korea is falling far behind advanced countries in terms of robot production technology.
According to a weekly issued by the Bank of Korea on Sunday, the country had 531 industrial robots for every ten-thousand people employed in the manufacturing sector as of 2015, which is the highest robot density in the world.
The country’s robot density more than tripled over the past ten years from 171 in 2005. Singapore came in second with 398, followed by Japan, Germany and Sweden. The global average stands at 69.
Japan ranks first in robot density in the auto industry with one-thousand-276, while South Korea and the U.S. tied for second place.
In terms of robot technology, the U.S. took the top spot with South Korea lagging a massive four-point-two years. Japan and the European Union lag one-point-four years each, and China seven-point-one years.
