South Korea's three major shipbuilders -- Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries – have maintained the top three global positions in order backlog.
According to data released by the British maritime market analyst Clarkson Research Institute on Friday, Daewoo Shipbuilding's Geoje shipyard came in first with 82 ships, or five-point-96 million compensated gross tons(CGTs), as of the end of July. Hyundai Heavy's Ulsan shipyard followed with 69 vessels, or three-point-33 million CGTs while Samsung Heavy's Geoje shipyard came in third with 60 ships, representing about three-point-04 million CGTs.
China's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding was ranked fourth with an order backlog of 51 ships, or two-point-two million CGTs, while Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding rounded out the top five with 30 ships, or roughly one-point-84 million CGTs.
The top five rankings remained unchanged from June.
