South Korea’s major retailers are resuming sales of government inspected eggs that are pesticide-free.
E-Mart announced on Wednesday that eggs produced from its partner farms have passed government inspections, and its branches across the country would resume selling them at 3 p.m.
The company said around 800-thousand eggs would be put back on shelves within the day, which is around 80 percent of its usual daily distribution volume.
Lotte Mart said once eggs from its partner farms were cleared, it planned to resume sales as early as Wednesday evening. GS Retail’s convenient store chain, GS 25, and large-sized retail shop, GS Supermarket, announced similar plans.
Earlier, the government launched an inspection into every large-sized chicken farm across the country after the toxic insecticide fipronil was found in eggs at some local chicken farms. The government began allowing sales of eggs that passed its inspection on Wednesday.
